Is There a Link Between Allergies and Cancer?

Is There a Link Between Allergies and Cancer?

A research study on "Allergy and Cancer: Organ site-specific results from the Adventis Health Study" by P.K. Mills et al., in American Journal of Epidemiology 136 (1992) pgs. 287-295 finds that:

Allergies and cancer may be connected, this study of over 34,000 Seventh-day Adventists suggested. But the connection is hardly straightforward. The risk of breast cancer "increased with increasing numbers of allergies", yet, "ovarian cancer risk was decreased". Among males in the study, "reaction to medications is associated with a …33% increase risk of all cancers", while "females experienced a 21% decrease risk associated with reaction to medications".

Editorial Note: From the natural-healing perspective, allergies and cancer are both imbalances. The immune system overreacts in allergies, while it under-reacts in cancer. Perhaps such opposites occur together because they counterbalance one another, as when a downward push on one section of a waterbed causes a compensating rise in another section.
